lift ideas... i just bought a ranger... and im really looking forward to lifting it... i just need a cheap way to lift kinda strapped on cash and ideas?
i meant the 289 not my 429 lol...and no im not spending 2 grand for the boss heads....the ones that are on it work fine(and they are still are hemispherical)
Didn't know 429 heads were hemi... I knew the BOSS429 had hemi heads but not the standard heads ! Also the 429 SCJ had a touch of Hemi. I need to look it up and then I will have learned something. Added info: OK did some looking... There are special hemi heads for 429s and 427s, for sbf's and for flat heads, all after market. The only OEM Hemi Heads from Ford were on the 429 BOSS and the Single Overhead Cam 427, made famous by Dyno Don.
This is a standard 429 head… WEDGE man all the way. The SCJ429s (Super Cobra Jet Heads) may have a touch of Hemi but not much. Trick Flow heads have a twisted wedge design, but only the 429BOSS has a hemi chamber.
dude i have semi- hemispherical heads from the factory...thunderjet 429 is the same as a cobra jet just a different name...i will argue this fact with you all day long...last time i checked you dont own one the first car ford put the 429 in was my year thunderbird taken right from a website specializing in the ford 385 engine series here is the link if you want to look for yourself.... http://www.carmemories.com/cgi-bin/viewexperience.cgi?experience_id=503
Man... A cantered valve FORD head is not a hemi. This head might fall under Ford's semi-hemi title it that is all. If what you call HEMI.. Is the cantered valve wedge head then I have a set of hemi heads on my 5.0L, NOT. Look up hemi and see what comes up… Added: Quoted from Ford Motor Company Muscle Parts Books. "385 Family, 429-460 engines, Supplement #1, Pg 43, Heads Featuring "canted" valves, similar to the 351C engines, which permit a dome or “semi-hemi combustion chamber. The general shape is still a quenched type wedge.” Supplement #2, pg 25, Main Title “429 wedge muscle mods” Heads: "All 429 wedge engines use a cast iron head with a touch of hemi to the combustion chamber shape because of the canted valves”. There is no mention of the Boss 429 but we all know that was one of Ford true Hemi Engines, along with the 427SOHC Engine. Ford does have some exotic heads that as far as I know never hit the streets but funnier things have happened. Now lets talk the Oldsmobile 455 Hemi, that never made it to production, love to find one of those. The engine, displacing 425 cu in (6,965 cc) and belonging to the FE family of Ford engines, was known as the "427 SOHC"; it was also known as the Cammer. It was basically a set of SOHC hemi heads that bolted onto Ford's FE engine block. The 1964 engine was designed in 90 days of intensive engineering effort[9] for use in racing. The 427 SOHC used the side oiler engine block modified slightly to deal with the missing in-block cam among other OHC issues.[9] Because of their power levels it was banned from NASCAR races, though allowed in certain drag racing classes. After the NASCAR ban, Ford continued to produce the SOHC, selling it over the counter to racers and others[10] who used it to power many altered-wheelbase A/FX Mustangs and supercharged Top Fuel dragsters. Connie Kalitta, Pete Robinson, and "Snake" Prudhomme all used the engine in their Top Fuel racers. In 1967 Connie Kalitta's SOHC-powered "Bounty Hunter" won Top Fuel honors at AHRA, NHRA and NASCAR winter meets, becoming the only "triple crown" winner in drag racing history.[11] Dynamometer results of the day showed the SOHC Hemi producing almost 700 hp (522 kW) in crate form (100 hp per liter).[12] The overhead cams meant that it was not as rpm-limited as the Chrysler Hemis were with their pushrods and heavy and complex valvetrains.[13] Later Ford engine designs with hemispherical chambers included the Calliope, which used two in-block cams, arranged one over the other, to drive 3 valves per hemispherical chamber.[14] The pushrods activating the valves from the top camshaft were almost horizontal. In 1968, Ford brought out a completely new engine family called the 385-series. This engine's heads used a modified form of the hemispherical chamber called Semi-Hemi.[15] In the 1970s, Ford designed and produced a small-block engine with hemispherical heads to address the growing concerns about fuel economy. Unfortunately, even with an ahead-of-its-time direct fuel injection system feeding a stratified charge chamber,[16][17] the hemi's emissions could not be made clean enough for compliance with regulations. This plus the cost of the valve actuation systems, along with the cost of the high pressure pump needed to deliver fuel directly into the chamber, as well as the gilmer belt drive system needed to drive the pump, made further development pointless at the time. Most 1980s 4-cylinder Fords used the Ford CVH engine, CVH meaning "Compound Valve, Hemispherical (Head)". In 2007, taking advantage of the improvements in equipment, computer controls, and chamber design during the intervening years, Ford introduced its non-hemi Ecoboost line of direct-injected engines. So where is all this going… no where, I am not trying to argue or put anyone down or make a problem out of nothing, I was just trying to correct the Ford terminology nothing more. I have books on Fords from the 50’s on up, my pride being the complete set of Ford’s Muscle Parts Books both the Public and the Parts Room versions. Always good to discus Ford with a Ford enthusiast.
idc how the hemi chamber is achieved...fact of the matter is those heads have a semi hemi shape combustion chamber....no denying it....end of discussion scrambler.... now there is no denying the boss heads are true hemis
yeah its all done through the odb2 port. And since id go nuts with the wire down in the factory location of that port I am going to have to move it
