Hater/Fan blower switch

    Sorry, I meant HEATER, not Hater :).
    I'm talking about the control knob you use to turn the heat/cold up or down, you know the fan.
    Anyway, mine only works on the first and highest setting.
    Anyone know off-hand what that would be?

    The problem is under the hood on the passenger side. The fan resister is failing. When it fails
    you will only have high speed or nothing. parts cost about $30.00. Make sure you get the resister
    and a new receptacle. 2 screws hold the resister in. Splice in the new receptacle change out the
    resister and like magic. You're back in business. The whole job takes about 30 min. This is how
    it is on a 2005 4l. Good luck.

    Sorry... yeah, I'm THAT guy! LOL

    Seriously, Dchad53 nailed it. Happened to mine, fixed it with the resistor and pigtail. Easy fix.

    Hi again. Thanks very much for the info on my problem.
    But of course, the receptacle I bought has different colored wires :(, and the unit is slighty different as to where the wires go. It plugs in to the resistor fine, but I don't know what wire to connect to what wire. Any idea?
    Kind of hard to say if you don't see the wires huh. Plus, man I literally had to bust it apart to get that plug off the old resistor. Amateurs huh...lol

    The wire colors were different on mine also (from AutoZone). Luckily, I noticed this before I busted mine off. I just matched up the wires by position on the connector. I would post a picture of that, but last spring I installed the EATC mod (Electronic Automatic Temperature Control). It now has a completely different fan controller. I would recommend finding someone with a Ranger that will let you look at the connector and notate where each wire goes. Keep in mind older Explorers 1995 to 2001 (non-EATC) used the same connector.

    thanks again all. So I got the wires sliced temporarily, and it seems to be working. BUT, same things is happening....lol. low, and high speed. Could that be from not having the correct wires together??
    or another issue?? :)

    Did you replace the resistor AND connector, or just the connector? The problem you describe is almost always the resistor. The melted connector is a byproduct of the resistor going out.

    Yep. You need to replace both pieces. The resister fails and burns up the plug. I tried to send a pic of the wiring but the pic was too big.
