Gas fumes

I believe I blew the head gasket on my 1998 Ford Ranger XLT, 3.0L, (water in gas), so I did a head job on it. Replaced gaskets on both heads. Some water was getting into the number 5 and 6 cylinders, but nothing into the oil. I had been having some trouble with the water in the radiator being bright orange and a lot of gas venting into the overflow tank. During the tear down I found out the vanes on the water pump were completely corroded away, so I had to replace the pump. I believe the orange water and over heating (which wasn't showing up on the gauge) was a result of the water in the radiator not flowing. It was just sitting and rusting the radiator.

Now I have a problem that I did not have prior to the rebuild. You can smell gas when you drive it, specifically when you stop. The odor is strong enough to make you worry about a lit match. I checked all over and can't find a gas leak. I have sprayed carb fluid all around every gasket joint and the EGR and brake booster, with no change in the engine RPM's. The truck also seems to be hesitating a bit when taking off from a stop, almost like it does when its not firing on a cylinder. I used my friends ODBC to check if their might be a code (no engine light on), but there is nothing there, which makes me tend to believe that all 6 cylinders are firing. I made sure I torqued all the bolts correctly. The only thing I might not have torqued correctly might be the TBI, but I don't think that is the problem.

I need some ideas of what might be the problem, because I'm at a loss.
