Hello guys, long time ranger owner, first time poster. I just picked up an 04 tremor 4x4. now the previous owner was a heavy smoker. does anyone know of a sure fire way to get the smell out, aside from a professional detail? Second question. I have bucket seats with the center console that flips up with compartment under it. the armrest itself is the textured vinyl and its tacky. tacky like sticky. ive cleaned it myself and i know its not anything thats on it, i think its the material itself. anybody know how to remedy that one as well?

Welcome to the site! Smoke is hard to get out... Id scrub that interior CLEAN! Then after its spotless, Id hit it with a gallon of Febreze lol. A few rounds of scrubbing and Frebreze and it should help a lot. As for the sticky part, Im not sure on that. You cant get TOO heavy duty on it or else youll tear it up. Id start small with some Son of a Gun and see if that helps any
Welcome to Ranger Forum! The smell is a tough one to get rid of. Try some Meguiars odor eliminator. Spray the hell out of it, close all the windows and doors and keep repeating, maybe throw in a good shampoo on the floor and seats. The center console lid, I would just have it re-wrapped or grab another from a junkyard. There is a member here named Drppdyllwrngr that does incredible upholstry work. Shoot him a pm and see what he can do for you.
if the console's tacky and the previous owner was a REALLY heavy smoker it could actually be the nickotine & tar leaching out. i've got a steering wheel from a '70 camaro in my attic that, no matter how much i clean it, it's still sticky.
another trick to remove odors is to get newspaper NO COLORED ink just blk and white newspaper, soak them in a baking soda water solution wring the paper out and place on the floor boards for a couple days , if it drys out real fast may need to do this for 4 or more days but it should remove the odors, we used this trick in friges to remove odors that permeated the plastic liners of frig and freezers
thanks for all the speedy replies guys. For starters, I just did the old baking soda refrigerator box over night. Ill leave that in there for a few days, I have my own vinyl shop, so I just decided to wrap the armrest in solid black vinyl, problem solved. I might be able to get my hands on a steam cleaner so I might go that route.
Good deal! Don't forget an intro thread and a signature of the truck particulars! I'd like to see the truck as well!
Ok, got the sig down, ill post an intro soon, with some pics. So if it comes to the worst case scenario, anyone know of some reputable places ( besides going to a junk yard) to get new seats, new carpet and new headliner?
lmctruck but it'll be kinda pricy.... you can get them in the jy and have them recovered maybe cheaper than buying new
